A recent study has found them essential to build engagement with users and encourage them to share. According to the study, photographs are essential for the micro-blogging site; thus it explains the importance of incorporating them in your tweets.

Using hashtags, links, and images in your tweets give you a greater advantage in terms of user engagement. The research was conducted on around 2 million tweets to make the balanced observation. The tweets consisting of hashtags, photographs or links were tweeted 68% of the time as compared to 30% of text based posts. Furthermore, users have given thumbs up to 74% of media contained tweets, whereas, text posts got just 38% thumbs up.

The study finally came up with the conclusion that tweets containing hashtags received 49% of re-tweets and tweets with no-hashtags got just 32% re-tweets.
