Facebook introduces New Moments App

facebook-moments  Facebook recently introduced  a photo sharing app, that will help to address the problem of getting friends to send each other the photos they’ve been storing in their own phones, is expanding to a video form. The app will now automatically to create a video of your shared photos which you can customize, personalize and share back to Facebook.

With the update, Facebook Moments will automatically create a music video for any grouping of six or more photos. You can then tap this video in the app and customize it further by changing the comprised photos and selecting from about a lot of different background music options. When you’re done making your choices to this video, one more tap will share the video directly to Facebook and tag the friend or friends with whom you’re already sharing those photos.

Facebook Moments is actually quickly solving one of the age-old challenges smartphone users have faced – like, you want to get a copy of photos your friend took, but they forget to send them. You then have to nag them to text you, email you the photos.

Facebook Moments makes it much easier, as it instead allows you to privately sync photos from your phone to others, and it uses a combination of date and time stamps, location as well as facial recognition to group photos into collections you can share.

Similar to mobile search results, Google will now show Tweets in a carousel in the main column of the organic search results. The tweets only show when Google thinks them to be pertinent. Users do not need a Twitter account to see the results or click on the results.

Google also stated that,  ranking & relevancy factor for the tweets in the search will continue to evolve and improve as the process matures.  In the current scenario, there is no promotional component involved for showing the Tweets in the organic search results.

Facebook is Testing Its Own Medium-Like Content Platform

Facebook is testing the idea of turning its present Notes product into a long-form content platform. This test was first spotted by Dave Winer on Twitter, who linked to an example. Visiting the link in his tweet will show you a Facebook Note that more look like a page of content you’d see on a site like Medium.

A Facebook spokesperson has confirmed the test, stating: “We’re testing an update to Notes to make it easier for people to create and read longer-form stories on Facebook.”

This update is composed to make Notes more relevant & usable — a Facebook feature that mainly went forgotten once the company started allowing longer status updates.

If Facebook wants people to blog on their site, the biggest selling point right is its huge built-in audience. The company faces competition from Medium when it comes to attracting thought leaders to its content platform. LinkedIn has also been making a name for itself as a platform for content publishing professionals.

Facebook may have a niche for itself as a platform for casual bloggers, and those who never considered the idea of starting a blog.

Facebook is raising its concern to Notes is fascinating and it will be interesting to see what comes of it.

WordPress Version 4.3 Now Available: Here’s something New

wordpress-logo-stacked-rgb

WordPress has released version 4.3 of its content management system, which is now available as an update in your dashboard. It comes with several new options for a smooth customization — the most prominent of which is the ability to modify navigation menus in the customizer.

The WordPress site customizer enables you to create menus, edit them, move menu items around, and so on, all while live previewing your changes as you go.

Formatting shortcuts have been introduced, which contains things list using asterisks (*) to create bulleted lists and number signs (#) to create headings.

WordPress has finally added the ability to customize browser icons — the little square icons that appear in browser tabs. The company has also made its platform more secure, just in case if you tend to forget your password, WordPress will send a reset link in its place instead of sending a new password direct to your inbox.

A minor but an important change will see comments, turned off on pages by default. Comments will now be confined to blog posts.

Word Press as a content management system will be even more user friendly. This will make a lot of site owner’s lives easier

Formatting shortcuts is a useful new addition, but it’s a curious decision by WordPress to not just adopt [markdown formatting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markdown).

In markdown an asterisk is used to create italicized text, while in WordPress it’s used to create lists. These sorts of things may end up being confusing to WordPress users who religiously write in markdown formatting, but that’s just a small grievance about an overall sound update.

Google Patents ‘Watch Time’ as a Search Ranking Factor

A patent granted to Google this week, is an indication of how the search giant aims to rank video content in the near future.

Bill Slawski at his blog SEO by the Sea was the first to notice the patent that outlines Google’s planned methods of ranking content by ‘watch time’.

It may sound like it’s aimed at video content; ‘watch time’ may also refer to how long someone stays on a page found by them in search results, regardless of the content.

The patent clarifies how a ranking score can be assigned to content based on how long people usually spend viewing that content. Scores may be attuned, and thus boosted or lowered in search results, according to the viewing habits related with the content.

A excerpt of the patent summary stated:

“This specification describes how a system can adjust a score for a search result that identifies a resource and was obtained in response to a search query to reflect user watch times of the resource, e.g. the times that users spend watching video content. In general, the system boosts the score for a search result if users historically tend to watch the resource for longer periods of time, and may demote the score if users historically tend to watch the resource for shorter periods of time.”

Watch time is a recognized ranking factor on YouTube, whereby the algorithm promotes videos with lengthier viewing sessions compared to those that receive the most clicks.

Google has a help center article about Watch Time optimization — that might help to be acquainted with if Google is in fact working on a way to bring this ranking factor to its central search product.

App For Breaking News Alerts By Facebook

Facebook, internet, social network, screen, iPhone

Facebook is working on an app, for sending out breaking news alerts directly to smartphones.  The app is in the development stage & will provide you with the news category of your choice, when news breaks that you’re interested in you’ll receive a push notification with a link back to the original story.

Only a few numbers of publications will partner with Facebook on this, but that may vary if the app proves to be successful.  As Facebook is trying to hold its grip in the news space , its evident that more people will rely on this source for their news updates.

Earlier this year Facebook launched Instant Articles, a  way to read and consume news content of all types. With the new mobile app that’s reportedly in the process, it looks like Facebook will soon be getting important news out to more people with greater immediacy.

There is no word on when the app may be ready to launch, and a Facebook spokesperson has declined comment.

Search is considered as the most vital part of the Google Play store  when it comes to the word ‘’Apps’’ .  the motive to draw people’s attention  when they download new apps  is what Google point’s out referring  as ‘’ “I want-to-know,” “I want-to-go,” “I want-to-do,” and “I want-to-buy” instants . To simplify, a foodie might search for cooking apps , a sports person might look for sports instruments .

The tool, which works cross-channel, allows users to use advanced strategies for automated bidding, such as target CPA . Advertisers can better align their AdWords conversion volume with the data they see from third-party solutions. According to Google , the product will be easier for marketers to promote their apps on google Play & on other platforms such as YouTube and the Google Display Network.
